Frank Mir Wants A Match With Lesnar

Frank Mir is looking to engage in a rubber match with Brock Lesnar in which he is hoping to even the scores.

This was the state of affairs in January and a date is yet to be fixed. The duo is heavyweight fighters, 37 and 39 years of age who had epic fights several years back, in 2008 and 2009. The first encounter that the two fighters had, Mir was able to defeat his opponent with a first round kneebar at UFC 81. Lesnar, however, avenged the first defeat in an emphatic fashion and defeated Mir in a second round TKO at the UFC 100. Hence, Mir has been looking out to defeat Lesnar which is on his mind, though he has not been getting the right opportunity.

Mir has been out of the circles as he has been suspended for about two years as he failed in a drug test at an event that was to be held at the Mandalay Bay Events Center. Read more »

Frank Mir Believes Overeem Deserves No. 1 Billing

As the Ultimate Fighting Championship or the UFC look set to award Heavyweight fighter Cain Velasquez an opportunity to fight for the UFC heavyweight Championship, currently held by Junior dos Santos, former contender for the title Frank Mir is not convinced that this is the right way forward for the company. With Velasquez almost certain to go head to head against dos Santos for the championship in a rematch of their epic title fight in 2011 later this year, it leaves a very uncertain future for the actual contender for the UFC Heavyweight Championship Alistair Overeem.

Overeem was scheduled to take on dos Santos for the UFC Heavyweight Championship earlier in the year but after he failed a dope test for the use of performance enhancing drugs and was sanctioned for 9 months by the Nevada State Athletic Commission, Mir stepped into that role. Although most of the fans of the UFC believe that Overeem should earn back his status as the contender for the title after disgracing himself, Frank Mir has other opinions.

According to Mir, who was recently speaking to, Mir stated that Overeem was the number one contender for the UFC Heavyweight Championship before the incident unfolded and added that he doesn’t see any reason why the Dutchman wouldn’t skyrocket back to the top when he returns to the UFC, provided the Nevada State Athletic Commission grants him a license.

The UFC has plans for holding this main event draw by the end of the year and Frank Mir believes that the longer the company takes to set up the fight between Velasquez and dos Santos, the longer Overeem will have to wait to face the winner of the match, as he would be ineligible for a fight in the company till the 27th of December, 2012.
