Former Ultimate Fighting Championship or the UFC Heavyweight Champion Frank Mir is looking to take full advantage of the unexpected championship shot that he has been given in the wake of the doping controversy that rocked the UFC. The 32 year old former undisputed champion was readying himself to take on another former champion Cain Velasquez at UFC 146 in Las Vegas on the 26th of May before it emerged that Alistair Overeem, the number one contender for Junior Dos Santos’s Heavyweight Championship belt had failed a random dope test ahead of the UFC fight card and will not be allowed to fight at UFC 146, as per the regulations of the Nevada Athletic Commission.
This meant that Mir was the only viable option left with the UFC for the main event draw and he was duly shifted from his match against Velasquez to face off against Junior Dos Santos for the title and the 32 year old Frank Mir is looking to take full advantage of the situation.
According to the American, there are not too many chances left for him at his age and having been given this unexpected opportunity, he will look to fully capitalize on it and regain the title one more time before he calls time on his career in the ring. He also stated that a 24 or 25 year old does not think much of the future and goes about his business but having spent 10 years in the industry, he knows how it works and knows that he has not got much left in him.
He also added that he understood how precious and rare these title shots were and stated that this title shot means a bit more to him and Frank Mir is looking to bow out with a bang.
